Designed by renowned Detroit architect Albert Kahn, The Cadillac Sales & Service Building opens in what is later known as 6001 Cass. Detroit is home to nearly 993,000 people – having doubled in population in just 10 years – it is now the fourth-largest city in the country.

Cass Avenue is known as “Automobile Row” because it is home to so many dealerships, automobile showrooms, manufacturing plants, distribution centers and repair shops. General Motors massive world headquarters – later known as Cadillac Place – is located at Cass and Grand Boulevard.

Cadillac stops selling cars at 6001 Cass.

General Motors begins using 6001 Cass as a warehouse.

General Motors donates 6001 Cass to Wayne State University – it is converted into classrooms and offices for the Department of Criminal Justice.

WDET-FM and The South End newspaper join other Wayne State University departments at 6001 Cass.

With 6001 Cass in disrepair, Wayne State University’s Board of Governors approves a move to raze the building.

Citing its beauty, Wayne State University President Irvin Reid has 6001 Cass removed from the university’s demolition list.

The New Amsterdam Historic District – which includes 6001 Cass – is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Platform purchases 6001 Cass from Wayne State University and begins its historic renovation and redevelopment.

Tata Technologies announces it will move its North American headquarters to 6001 Cass.

6001 Cass is completely modernized and carefully restored by The Platform, Farr Associates Architects and PCI One Source Contracting. Tata Technologies moves into 20,000 square feet on the sixth floor, Plans for other floors include 91,000 square feet of coworking space.

The former historic showroom on the second floor of 6001 Cass is beautifully restored – becoming the centerpiece of the redevelopment.
